Renewal for the Race

When the things you thought always stay together fall to pieces at your feet

Then you’re stuck there thinking that’s you right there broken and incomplete.

And even if you picked it all up and started again as if it was new

You’d always, always know that it’s one big fat fraud, it’s not true.

When the people you thought would always try to do right, do wrong

Then you’re crowded by the walls and suffocated by thoughts how do I go on?

And even if they made repairs and pasted on the smiles, so, so, blithe,

You’d always, always know that it’s not so, it’s all lies.

It’s hard to see the light of the future when there are clouds all around

But we know, we know, there’s light ahead when shadows are found!

Don’t look ahead, or behind, or even beside for someone to follow

You’ll find confidence in people empty and hollow.

Where do you go for refuge from the battle, the struggle, the strife?

Look to Jesus, with His words of comfort, guidance, eternal life.

You’re renewed, not just patched up or fixed up, by His grace

And each day He gives you strength, endurance, joy, in running the race!

    Hey Esther,
Love the real/raw emotion. I could identify with it (especially at certain times in my life)! Verse two was especially well crafted, in my “humble” opinion. πŸ™‚ Keep writing!

Thanks for the comment Ange πŸ™‚ Sometimes I start with a phrase and end up with a completely different poem than I thought I was writing!
